As HR professionals, I believe that we have far greater reach and influence than others in the business. To what extend we wield that power is something that varies from individual to individual. It might also be a parameter by which we may measure up to some of our goals. I spoke about specialization in my last post. This is what helps in putting it into action.
You will gain immense knowledge in your quest for specialization. Six months later you might even be close to specializing in your chosen field, but unless you implement it, you can never realize its true potential. Change implementation needs buy in – all the time. You know what they say about inertia and resistance to change. How can you change this? Influence!
You need to have influence over your managers, employees, department heads and outside stakeholders too. ‘There is a good reason why the dictionary defines it as the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behaviour of someone or something, or the effect itself.
So go on – sharpen that sword today!
