“#u%k-up” Nights

aA few weeks back I came across the most wonderful community ever. Let me introduce you to them. Happening in over 80 countries (including India) and 252 cities, these are evenings very well spent.

What:

In their own words – Fuckup Nights is a global movement and event series that shares stories of professional failure. Each month, in events across the globe, we get three to four people to get up in front of a room full of strangers to share their own professional fuckup. The stories of the business that crashes and burns, the partnership deal that goes sour, the product that has to be recalled, we tell them all.

Why:

Everybody fails yet no one talks about it enough and to do it in an open forum in front of strangers is another ball game altogether. It is a good lesson in vulnerability but a bigger lesson in reconciling with failure and learning from it. There is also solace in the fact that you are not the only one. There are millions around the globe just like you.

Wow!

We need more of this. Go attend these nights, take your friends along and if it is not happening in your city, let’s do something about it? If not at a citywide level, the least you can do is set up conversations around failure in your organization or team. These conversations are important and accelerate learning. Remember the age-old adage of ‘learn from other people’s mistakes’? This helps you do exactly that. I myself have talked about some of the biggest mistakes (here & here) I’ve made here on this blog.

I really do love their tagline ‘We live life without filters.’ Go check them out here & let’s talk about our failures just as much as we do about our wins.
