We have been talking about re-imagining HR, re-evaluating HR and all kinds of variations that forces us to re-think about how we’ve been working for a while now. I do love this fact about my profession. The fact that we are constantly pushing ourselves to do better & the great part is that we don’t just talk the talk but also walk the walk.
A side effect however, is that part of the community ends up feeling that the need to re-imagine HR comes from the fact that we’re not doing a great job. Hence, the talk about ‘eliminating HR’ or ‘can organizations work without HR’ creeps into discussion.
I wrote about being ‘HR Positive’ a while back and I still strongly believe in it. I am glad that HR is daring to go places where we’ve never been before, questioning age old beliefs and constantly challenging existing practices. Yes, boundaries need to be constantly pushed but as a profession, we are also great value drivers. So if you’ve have any doubts, eliminate them now. Better still; join this wonderful LinkedIn group that is designed to be a center for positive discussion, positive news and positive support of the people who are dedicated to the HR profession.
HR is great. Of course, we could be better but then, isn’t it the same with every profession?
PS: The upcoming SHRM India Conference has a big debate where the HR department undergoes a performance appraisal. I am curious to know what they have to say. It is definitely going to be one of my most awaited sessions of the two days.
PPS: This is the first of a series of blogs that talks about HR daring to venture into new spaces. The upcoming SHRM India conference on 29th & 30th of September 2016 will provide material for much of the content and I cannot wait to attend. If you are around, you must drop by.
