I just got off a call with one of my HR peers. Like always, our conversation opened with her favourite question–‘what’s keeping you up at night regarding work?’. In the past, I’ve been successful in limiting myself to one thing (I sleep like a baby). However, for the first time, I found myself rattling off an entire list. I realized that we’re still very much in the midst of a large evolutionary phase and if this isn’t the best time to be in the profession, I don’t know what is.
Here is my list of things keeping me up:
- Remote work: What is happening to the future of work? Will it be hybrid, virtual or back to office? Why is it that employees want one thing and organizations are going doing something else altogether?
- The great resignation: Why is everyone leaving and how do I keep them at the company? Should I be thinking of change too?
- Culture: Going back to my favourite phase of the season, ‘culture is caught not taught’. How are we ‘catching’ culture via remote work and is it the culture that is intended?
Each of these questions has another dozen attached to it. Tell me–what’s keeping you up at night?
